LBHS PTSA (Parent Teacher Student Association)

Welcome to new and returning students and families!  We would like to share about our organization to encourage all volunteers how team work makes the dream work for LBHS.  We are a 20-member volunteer organization made up of parents, teachers, administration, and students. 

Where to find us:

We seek to communicate with the LB community through reports provided at school meetings, social media (Facebook), Sign Up Genius for hospitality events, newsletters linked monthly to The Cavalier Connection, and through the PTSA tab on the school website.

Membership:

First general meeting for PTSA immediately preceding Back to School night on Aug. 21st

Look for:  Parent Membership Letter/envelope sent home on the first day of school with students. 

Annual membership dues are $7 per person.  Envelope can be returned to the school with your student and it will be delivered to the PTSA mailbox.  Donations can also be made toward Cash for Cavs or After Prom on the same check (please see membership form)

Seniors must be members by Nov. 30 to be eligible for the PTSA scholarship awarded in May

All memberships by 10/1/18- entered into drawing for a movie themed gift basket- $50 value

$25 gift card drawing awarded to a teacher who joins by 10/1

Scholarships and Awards:

PTSA awards $500 scholarships to seniors who apply and are PTSA members by 11/30/18.  A national PTA contest related to art appreciation, Reflections, is active at LB.  The 2018-19 Reflections theme is “Heroes Around Me”.  Submission deadline is mid-October.  Winners are awarded cash prizes and moved on to regional and national contest levels.  More information found at vapta.org.  Teacher Scholarships for classroom needs totaling $1000 are awarded to teachers from LB who join PTSA.

Staff Appreciation:

Saying “thanks” to LBHS staff and teachers is a priority of the PTSA!  Special occasions throughout the year to provide staff encouragement which include meals served during Parent/Teacher conferences, cookies at Christmas, special snacks, and Staff Appreciation Week.  Hospitality committee led by Ruthie Costello, ruthie@thecarpetshops.com and Trisha Carlton, jccarltons@netscape.net

After Prom:

A signature event hosted, funded, and prepared by the PTSA and very dedicated team leaders to create the ultimate after prom experience for students and night of making memories.  This year’s after prom date is May 4th with a theme of “May the Fourth Be With You”.

Initial gather for After Prom and envelope stuffing event with be held Oct. 11.  This committee is led by Melanie Leweke, melanie1982@comcast.net, and Denise Settle,

Organization

The PTSA at LB follows careful guidelines of order and accountability with monthly meetings, public and published treasurer reports and yearly audits, meeting minutes, etc.  Information is accessible on the PTSA tab under “Parents” on the LB website.  Treasurer, Robyn Martin, hokierobyn@gmail.com and Secretary, Kim Eller,  kceller96@gmail.com

Fundraising:

The PTSA at LB has BIG AND BOLD goals that they desire to accomplish yearly.  Funds to accomplish these goals are raised in a variety of ways.  Donations are tax deductible.  Fundraisers include: Selling 50/50 raffle tickets at home football games,  linking Kroger card to LBHS, Amazon Smiles program, and solicited donations for After Prom.

Volunteering:

PTSA committee members volunteer in ways that benefit our school community.  We provide coverage for events such as back to school business days, selling raffle tickets, manpower for school events such as homecoming and after prom, provide food for our hospitality events, and lots of behind the scenes encouragement for our teachers, staff, and students.  Email volunteer coordinator and VP Robin Steffey at flsrss@ntelos.net to be added to the Sign-Up Genius email that is circulated several times throughout the year with volunteer opportunities.

  1. Go to www.kroger.com, Login or create an account.  Once logged in, click on “Welcome your name” next to the black silhouette.
  2. Then click “My Account”.  Scroll down to the black silhouette.  Then click “My Account”.  Scroll down to the bottom of the page to find the section titled “Community Rewards”, “Edit”, then enter Lord Botetourt PTSA #82101 in the search bar and “Enroll”.
